    Tips

In 1920, the Belgian government decided to realize several canal projects, including a new waterway between Liège and Antwerp. This canal runs through cities such as Genk, Hasselt, Geel and Herentals, and connects the Maas with the Scheldt. The canal was dug by hand between 1930 and 1939. On May 31, 1930, during the celebration of Belgium's 100th anniversary, King Albert I symbolically gave the first sod for the canal that would bear his name.

The location on a waterway and a motorway (E313) makes the location along the Albert Canal interesting from a logistical point of view. In 2010 the concept "Alberthaven" was therefore developed: an inland harbor along the entire length of the canal. Today there are already important industrial areas on both banks of the canal. Industrial zone Amoco Geel is a good example of this.

On March 16, 1967, the chemical factory in Geel was founded under the name Amoco Chemical Belgium NV. In 1998 Amoco came under the wings of petroleum giant BP. Today this plant is an important production center for purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and paraxylene (PX).

Well, I doubt whether the view is nice. The cycle path along the Albert Canal is very nice, the views are more industrial, but you cycle straight ahead as a beeline and flat as a plate.
