The pies originate on the eastern slope of the horse mountain near Stützerbach. It runs through the Schortetal, forms the Knöpfelstaler pond in its upper part, a reservoir created in the 17th century for rafting wood, and after 8.5 km it flows into the Ilm at the Grenzhammer, a district of Ilmenau. There is a lot to see in terms of mining history. Be it the "Hohe Ofen", the "Voglersmühle", the Schaubergerk "Volle Rose" and much more.

Beautiful passable valley. At the beginning the Schortemühle, an inn with good food and a great location. At the end of the valley there is a small lake where you can relax.
