As early as 1848, a privately operated filtration plant supplied the residents of Bergedorf with drinking water from the Bille from a central location. 50 years later, drinking water extraction was switched to groundwater by building two wells.
The waterworks, which has existed since 1889, was brought up to the current technical standard for the extraction of groundwater in 1915 with a new pump and filter plant, modernized in 1982 and is now integrated into the extensive drinking water supply network of the Hamburg metropolitan region.
