    Here, in the main square, the gate that leads to the underground olive mill, dating back to the 16th century. Entirely excavated in the rocky bank of Piazza Vittorio Veneto on which we can observe today some squared holes closed by a glass coverture, the main underground room still has presses and millstones that were used for processing olives. On 17 December 1885 it was purchased by the municipality of Vernole to facilitate the redevelopment of the area. Abandoned in the early twentieth century, on 7 November 1995 it was brought to light with the aim of starting the recovery interventions. The restoration was completed in the 1999. After the management acted for several years by a local association
    involved in the protection and enhancement of the cultural heritage, today only the city hall regulates its access and opening by reservation.
