A vertex or geodetic point is a marked point that indicates an exact geographical position, forming a triangulation network with other geodetic vertices.
The exact position of the vertices is used to help make scale topographic maps, both national and regional.
In Spain there are about 11,000 vertices that are usually formed by a pillar 120 centimeters high and 30 in diameter supported on a cubic concrete base, all painted white. They are usually in high and clear places from which other similar points can be seen, so they are usually in places that have good panoramic views.
