Dead roads, an urnfield and burial mounds can be found on and under the heath, which shows that the area has been used by humans for thousands of years. The urnfield is probably one of the largest and best preserved fields in the Netherlands. This largest contiguous heathland of 't Gooi has a varied heathland vegetation with mosses, herbs, shrubs and birds of the open heath landscape such as the meadow pipit, linnet and stonechat. In the summer, the cuckoo and Eurasian tree falcon can sometimes be observed. The many pits point to the sand, loam and gravel extraction of the past. This heathland is connected to the Blaricummer- and Tafelberg heathland via the nature bridge Laarderhoogt over the A1 motorway and the Naarderstraat.
