The Falkenstein castle ruins stand at an altitude of 1,277 meters, making them the highest castle ruins in Germany. From the viewing platform at the ruins you can enjoy a fantastic 360-degree panorama of the Allgäu Alps and the Alpine foothills.Like Neuschwanstein, which you can see in the distance from here, the castle was built by King Ludwig II; it was his last project. Falkenstein was supposed to be even bigger than Neuschwanstein. You can find more information about this in a small museum on site.
