Christchurch is protected from the English Channel by the stunning Christchurch Harbour, an almost entirely enclosed tidal estuary with Hengistbury head providing shelter. The Rivers Avon and Stour meet here and flow into the harbour and out the narrow channel.

The quay is in the upper reaches and a wonderful place to pass the time in summer. Hundreds of boats are moored in the harbour and right off the quay, with Christchurch marina sitting next door. The Quomps is here too, not a character from an 80s kids’ TV show but a flat, grassy park, ideal for a picnic.
