In the mid-19th century, agriculture was the main source of income for most villagers. However, the economic and political situation was very tense, so some families and individuals decided to emigrate to America between 1845 and 1859. Those who remained at home sought other sources of income besides farming to improve their living conditions. This is how Anna Schneider came up with the production of rosehip oil and rosehip pulp. This developed into a substantial source of income for the villagers, which was especially welcome in the fall and winter.
