Erpernburg Castle, also known as Niederburg, is located in a valley in the immediate vicinity of the Alme river. The facility is privately owned and stands in a small collection of trees in a cultivated field. Due to the risk of collapse and a lack of access, there is only the possibility to visit the remains from the public space.
The castle was probably built as early as the 11th century. The von und zu Brenken family is mentioned in connection with the complex. At the beginning of the 16th century, they built Erpernburg Castle north of the castle. The castle fell into disrepair and was looted and destroyed in the Thirty Years War.

Nice to see from the bike path. The path across the meadow (to the left of the fence) is no problem for MTB.
