The Parish Church of Saints Giovanni Avangelista and Ermolao in Calci, dating back to the end of the 11th century, was built by order of Archbishop Daiberto and completed thanks to Countess Matilde of Tuscany. It has a Pisan-Romanesque style façade divided by two orders of blind arches with geometric motifs typical of Pisan architecture.

On the left stands the sturdy bell tower, left unfinished, made of stone and brick. In a high position, on the same side, there is an ancient head, perhaps of Jupiter Ammon. The interior is divided into three naves, separated by granite columns, culminating in Ionic and Corinthian capitals.

The main altar in Carrara marble is very interesting, but also the eighteenth-century oil altarpiece which depicts the Madonna and Child between Saints Ermolao and Francesco and the baptismal font, composed of four basins, sculpted in a monolithic block of marble and decorated with reliefs (work of the Biduino school dating back to the 12th century)."
