Hiking

Location and history: Rüdern is a district of Esslingen am Neckar in the northwest of the city. Rüdern is located above the Neckarhalde and Stuttgart Uhlbach and on the edge of the Schurwald forest. Rüdern was first mentioned in 1279 as a branch village of Esslingen. The original Ailenbergturm (also called Mélac-Turm) was erected in 1574 according to the will of the official Joß Burckhardt as a "special adornment for the city" above Obertürkheim.
