Memorial to the places that fell victim to the damming of Lake Moldau...

Work on the water basin began in the first months of 1951, although at that time the planning of the project was not quite finished. First, bricklayers and builders from the Pozemní stavby České Budějovice company built wooden houses for the workers near the future dam, which would later become the basis of the Lipno settlement (after which the lake was named), as well as warehouses, garages and workshops. Clearing of forests (about 550 ha) and avenues located in the flood zone began, resulting in several thousand truckloads of timber in the densely forested region of the Bohemian Forest. Furthermore, houses and other buildings were demolished, which would also have been located under the future water surface. This affected, for example, the municipality of Dolní Vltavice (German Untermoldau), a part of Horní Planá (Oberplan) and Frymburk (Friedberg) and almost all of Lipno, and two cemeteries[6] were relocated. Numerous access roads and paths were created in order to be able to bring in building materials. All of this turned the Vltava Valley into a huge construction site, which in some cases changed the neighboring towns beyond recognition. (Wikipedia)

These places were our home before they fell victim to the Iron Curtain.
