The medieval castle of Brendola dominated (or dominated) the plain and the passage between the current provinces of Vicenza and Verona, which over the centuries has been a disputed border between various states and factions: precisely because of its important strategic position, it had an imposing, complex and fortified architecture.

It is also known as the 'Rocca dei Vescovi', for having been the episcopal jurisdiction and refuge for centuries.

Built at least in the year 1000, over the centuries it was the scene of battles and sieges, following the vicissitudes of history and the passages of power: in 1513 it was occupied by the Spanish and in 1514 reconquered by the Serenissima, which ordered its destruction to prevent the castle 'from further becoming a possible asylum for Spanish, Germans or other enemies of the Republic'.

Of the fortress, the keep (under renovation) and fragments of walls remain, which once surrounded the entire hill and the old town.

Definitely a nice route, quite easy and quiet because it is not crowded.

Allow me to correct the length of the route, which is not about 8 km as written, but well over 12, this is for information only.

      Advised.
