The Zellinger Maria Hilf Chapel was built in 1677-1685 by the Zellinger Scapular Brotherhood and consecrated by the Würzburg auxiliary bishop Stephan under the name "Mariä Hülf vom Berge Karmel".
As a result, the chapel was placed on a par with the pilgrimage churches in Retzbach and Dettelbach.
As early as 1252, young people from Zellingen, delighted with the graces that Bishop Heinrich IV of Eichstätt bestowed on the parish church "In honor of Mary Most Holy Mother of God", which had been built a year earlier, formed a Marian "Light Brotherhood".
The centerpiece of the veneration was a copy of the much venerated Madonna with the holy scapular, a piece of brown cloth similar to an ordeal, which Our Lady is said to have given to the Carmelite Father Simon Stock as a pledge of salvation.
