In 1959, shortly after the Bundeswehr was set up, the Westphalia barracks in the "Heessener Busch" between Ahlen and Hamm-Heessen, a former property of Baron von Boeselager, was completed. This also includes a tank wash, a shooting range, an ammunition depot and an arms store.
