The Glockenberg mine was a roof slate mine south of the Granetalsperre near Goslar. After the council slate mine was closed in 1896, a Goslar master roofer began quarrying slate on the Glockenberg in 1897. In the first few years the slate was only mined in open-cast mining, from 1928 onwards, underground mining was used. The pit was opened up by the Hans-Georg-Schacht and by a tonnage-long shaft with daytime opening. The pit was closed in 1969 due to sales difficulties. Thereafter, the extraction of slate flour and split from the existing stockpiles, which had been ongoing for many years, was continued until the 1970s. During this time the mine was kept operational until it was demolished in 1974. The houses belonging to the pit were inhabited until 1992, but were demolished afterwards.
