Bolton Castle was built between 1379 and 1399 by Sir Richard le Scrope, Lord Chancellor of England to Richard II. Despite being damaged by Cromwell’s men in the English Civil war the castle is in relatively good condition. It's open to visitors as a museum and for weddings and private events including filming. There's an entrance fee, while you can also make use of the cafe, gift shop and toilets. Bolton Castle is open from March to October.
