The Roman guard post Wp. 14/5 on the eastern slope of the Vorderen Schlossbuck (Burgstallwald) in Gunzenhausen was first established in 1887 by Dr. Eidam excavated. The 5.50 mx 7.40 m tower seems to have been added to the Limes wall later, as the northern corner of the tower overlaps the foundation of the Limes wall.

In order to ensure complete surveillance, the poorly visible location on the eastern slope of the Vorderen Schlossbucks made this tower only 160 m away from Wp. 14/4 necessary.

After a detailed investigation by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation in 1980, the foundations were rebuilt in this unique condition as a floor plan reconstruction. The foundations of a smaller building, which have also been proven, are no longer preserved. The city of Gunzenhausen had the tower floor plan renovated again in 2007 and a new information board erected.

      The Romans in Gunzenhausen!

To the east of the city center is the Burgstallwald. In 1980 the foundation walls of a Limes watchtower were restored. The course of the palisade fence (also called "Devil's Wall") is illustrated by logs in this area. Just a short distance away is a reconstructed watchtower on the slope of the Vorderen Schlossbucks. Display boards provide visitors with detailed information.

Stone tower floor plan of the Roman guard post Wp. 14/4 on the Vorderen Schlossbuck (Burgstallwald) in Gunzenhausen. The tower was built in 1887 by Dr. Eidam excavated, examined in detail by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation in 1980 and then rebuilt in plan.

The peculiarity of this 4.70 x 6.30 m tower is the inner division of the floor plan. In addition, the Limes intersects a ring wall here. To the east of the stone tower are two funnel pits in which the Limes wall is visible as a weak, linear, slightly raised "rib". In a long straight line, the wall pulls up the Schlossbuck from the west and runs as a dead straight line as the northern foundation of Wp. 14/4 to Wp. 14/5. From this elevated point you have a wide view over the Altmühl Valley and the recreational region around the Altmühlsee - without today's forest cover.

In 2007 the city of Gunzenhausen had the tower floor plan with the associated palisade renovated.
