From here the path from the nature reserve of the Doode Beemden runs south for a long way along the meandering Dyle with some really nice stretches. The Dijle is actually also the core of the Doode Beemden. The river rises in Houtain-le-Val in Walloon Brabant. Here, south of Leuven, the Ijse flows into it, but the Thyle, Train, Nethen and Laan also do so before the Dijle reaches Leuven.

Hiking

The Dijle is a river with a high flow and is 86 km long, it flows around Wavre, Leuven and Mechelen. Until 1914 she was navigated to Leuven, until the early 1960s until the confluence with the Demer in Werchter. The river lost much of its importance to shipping when the Leuven canal was dug in the 18th century.
