The halyard of the Tiber is an artificial canal, built in 1940, which shortened the course of the Tiber River by eliminating a meander located in the Mezzocammino area, downstream from the city of Rome. Its construction has generated a dead loop that has turned into a semi-marshy area with a succession of small lakes populated by turtles, otters, herons, mallards, hen and other anatids.
