The "Hohle Stein", a designated natural monument, is a striking group of cliffs northwest of the Buchwaldkopf between Niedernhausen-Oberjosbach and Idstein-Lenzhahn. A higher proportion of silicic acid or quartz ensured that this quartzite area of the Taunus main ridge was cut out as a "hardened" from the intensive weathering under the warm and humid tropical climate in the Palaeogene (66-23 million years ago today). The rocks of the hollow stone also testify to the tremendous forces of mountain formation, because they have scratches and grooves in places, which are created by two rock bodies sliding past each other during mountain formation. Such surfaces are known as harness, an old mining term.

An imposing structure from below, a wonderful path leads along above. Unfortunately, a lot of it was cut down, but still a beautiful piece of earth, ideal for children who would like to climb

The rock group made of typical Taunus quartzite has been under nature protection since 1929
