The story of the Schieëperskruus
The shepherds stayed on the heath all summer. They could not go to church on Sundays because the village was far away and the flock could not be left alone. One of them therefore held out a large cross on this spot with his schiepersschupke. Here he came to pray, at the "cross". In winter he caught up with "his swing" by attending mass every day.
