I think people exaggerate. You can certainly swim. Swimming out is definitely not recommended, but in the surf area you can walk in as an adult and let the swell carry you.

There are two steep climbs and descents along the way. Really sweaty. 95% of the way is concrete (no idea what for, because only a snow groomer can drive on the climbs). You also pass two locked gates, which are easy to bypass.
