The Upper McCloud River Trail runs parallel to Highway 89 right along the river, passing several free camp areas, including Nitwit and Skunk Hollow Camp. They are beautifully located along the north shore of the river and well shaded by tall Pine trees, some sites have sawn timer stumps for seats and large stone fire rings, but no restrooms.
