Fantastic place in the middle of the forest. Climbing the tower is also recommended. Please check the opening hours.

      The Dome (Lunteren)

De Koepel is the name for the lookout tower that is located in the Lunterse Buurtbos, about a 25-minute walk from Lunteren train station (first follow the signs to the Werelt to the forest and then the posts with dark-green markings from the corner of Boslaan/ van den Hamlaan). There is also a cycle path to the Koepel. Motorists can park their car on Boslaan, near HCR De Lunterse Boer. From there it is about a 15 minute walk (follow the dark green posts).

There is always an exhibition in the Koepel during the season and walk-in concerts are organized on some Sunday afternoons. For the program see the regional newspapers or this site under Lunters News.

The Dome is a solid masonry tower with five floors. The tower itself is 22 meters high and is located on the Galgenberg, which is 34 meters above N.A.P. stands. With good visibility you can even see the Utrecht Cathedral with binoculars. The Dome was built in 1913, in memory of notary J.W.Th.W. van den Ham, built on behalf of his family and his successor notary G. Wilbrink. His cousin and son-in-law W.O.J. Nieuwenkamp was commissioned for the design with two floors and a circulation. Nieuwenkamp constructed the tower in natural stone and masonry and constructed it in such a way that the tower could easily be raised if the surrounding trees were to obstruct the view. The name the Dome is due to the typical round shape of the copper roof that covers the circulation. In 1962 the architect J.W. Dinger, son of the Lunterse notary R. Dinger, who died in 1946, commissioned the addition of two floors. The tower reached its current height in 1968.

You have to pay a 2 Euro entrance fee to go up. It is worth the money.
