Bentheim Forest: one of the oldest existing forests in Germany. Developed on the moist clay soil between the two elevations in Bad Bentheim and the Isterberg made of Bentheim sandstone. Oaks, beeches and hornbeams in particular grow in the mixed forest. You can see a relict forest - a special forest biotope with bizarre, long-dead giant trees. Some of the paths in the Bentheim Forest are part of a star-shaped network of hunting paths from around 1700.

The paths are dead straight, but you won't get bored. You are more likely to see game early in the morning or at dusk.
