The Ulenburg dates back to a previous farm. It was Hilmar von Quernheim who had the farm expanded in 1568 into a moated castle in the Weser Renaissance style typical of the area. This began a varied history of ownership. Quernheim belonged to the Herford women's monastery, but the diocese of Minden claimed the Ulenburg as belonging to it. In the years that followed, the Ulenburg also changed hands several times. Since 1927, it has belonged to the Wittekindshof - a social care and work facility for disabled people, which has several branches like this one in the region.

The Ulenburg park is freely accessible and can be visited by anyone. There are no access restrictions. You can walk around the castle and explore part of the park.

According to building documents, the moated castle was built between the years 1568 to 1570, previously the Ulenburg was not a castle, but an unpaved farmyard. The year 1299, which was added later above the main entrance and on a weather vane, is incorrectly considered the year of construction and does not refer to the Löhner moated castle.
