Tips

  • Castle chapel of St. GeorgeThe castle chapel was built in the 13th century east of the castle hill in the area of the so-called outer bailey, whose wall and moat system can still be seen today, and was consecrated to Saints Lawrence and George. In 1353 it was added to the Frauenzell monastery, and the last exterior renovation took place in 1974.
It is a plastered quarry stone building with Romanesque and Gothic elements, e.g. B. carved corner blocks and narrow pointed arch windows. Inside there is a semicircular apse with a chamfered choir arch, the nave has a wooden ceiling. The altar structure from the 17th century has fluted columns and figures of Saints Hedwig and Lawrence. There is a shingled roof turret from the 17th century on the roof.
