It's a climb up to Mickleham Common but it's well worth it for the feeling of of being on top of the world up here.
During the Second World War, Winston Churchill would use the common as his landing strip on visits to Lord Beaverbrook, a member of the War Cabinet, who lived nearby.

The Gallops is a beautiful expanse forming part of the Mickleham Downs with both a walkway path and a bridleway which is still in frequent use. This also forms part of the Box Hill Hike.
