In earlier times the toll house was part of the Stoutenburg estate. This also included a castle, coach house and several farms. There used to be a toll booth on the other side of Stoutenburgerlaan, but it was demolished a long time ago. It is unclear whether the old toll house ever really served to collect tolls. It may have been a kind of gatehouse. The name "De Poort" also points to this.
