Rothenfels on the right bank of the Main between Lohr am Main and Marktheidenfeld has only about 1000 inhabitants. Rothenfels itself, the part of the city on the river, is wedged between the water and a steep slope, on which the castle Rothenfels (today conference center and youth hostel) enthroned, which is followed by the district Bergrothenfels.
