At the end of the 19th century, all of Catalonia suffered an economic downturn that coincided with the attack of an insect, phylloxera, which killed the vines. This meant the depopulation of many towns. But in this area it was not as strong as in other towns thanks to the existence of the train track, which played a fundamental role in the commercialization of wine - it linked the consuming and producing areas quickly and the wine reached its destination in better state.
