The path around the lake naturally offers many views of the lake. This summer (2019) there is an exciting art project along the way. Let yourself be surprised!

The Bordesholmer See is a nationally known local recreation destination.
The name "Bordesholm" is derived from the words "Bard" (mnd. For shore) and "Holm" (mnd. For island).
The lake was created after the last ice age from a subglacial runoff valley 10,000 years ago. Since then it has been subject to constant change and is of great importance for people who settle here. While it served as a source of food and drinking water for a long time, it is now mainly used for recreational purposes.
The maximum water depth is 8 m, but on average it is only 3 m deep.
The lake is surrounded by a 5 km long hiking trail, which leads in parts through the adjacent forest, the Wildhof. There are benches along the way at regular intervals.
Some points of the community's eco-trail can be found here. On the east bank there is a guarded beach with a jetty and kiosk, where you can eat and drink all year round.
From the newly built terrace or the bathing jetty, which was renewed in 2015, the sunsets over Lake Bordesholmer can be admired.
The bathing water quality (measuring station 239) is checked regularly and found to be good to very good.
