The bay is a habitat for large swarms of birds, various types of goose, spoonbills and other seabirds. If you like the North German Wadden Sea landscape, come here at his expense.

Very beautiful there. However, the lighthouse is not accessible by car. Too bad and hard for people who find it difficult to walk from the nearby parking lot.

The lighthouse was planned as one of five guiding lights in 1883 as part of the German-Dutch lighting project for the Lower Ems and was completed in 1890.
The tower became particularly popular thanks to the film Otto - The Extra-Frisian by comedian Otto Waalkes. In the film, the Otto lighthouse serves as an apartment. The tower also appears in the 2003 episode Sun and Storm of the TV series Tatort.

The Pilsum lighthouse, built in 1888, is a landmark of the Krummhörn - Greetsiel holiday region. With its approx. 11 m height and 28 steps, the small yellow-red tower has become the main character in the children's book series “Lükko Leuchtturm” by Bernd Flessner, the backdrop to Otto Waalkes' famous cinema film and a place where couples in love fall in love with it Give yes word. Around 200 weddings are held annually in our Pilsum lighthouse.
The Pilsum lighthouse is only opened as part of a guided tour. The guided tours explain interesting facts about the history of this famous lighthouse and the importance of dyke construction on the East Frisian North Sea coast.

Here you can see thousands of geese, especially barnacle geese, ringed geese and gray geese, as well as spoonbill, lapwings, oystercatchers and snipe, ducks and divers. It is best to have a pair of binoculars with you!

The Pilsum lighthouse stands on the edge of Pilsumer Watt. The lighthouse was completed in 1890, and served until 1915 to fire the Emshörnrinne. The decommissioning took place in October 1919. 1973, the lighthouse was renovated and received the red-yellow-red paint. Through the film of Otto Waalkes "Otto the Frisian" the tower became popular.

On the way to the Pilsum lighthouse, I always had to maintain a small place under the sometimes ignorant cycling. So for me on the dike top went tirelessly to the Pilsum lighthouse. And the decision to 🚶 for me was the right one, especially since the weather was just great. Permanent sunshine leider and unfortunately hardly a small patch of shade.

Whenever I visit Greetsiel, my path leads over the dike to the tower. That's a tradition.

An extraordinary lighthouse that has never been able to take on its task as such - because of its color.
Visually within reach is not only Greetsiel (D), but also Eemshaven (NL).

We were in Greetsiel in October 2019 and also wanted to visit the lighthouse. Unfortunately, the hike was over shortly before, because we did not come to the lighthouse, because dog ban ... far and wide no sheep 🐑!?

In the lighthouse there is a wedding room of the registry office Krummhörn.
Certainly a wonderful place to say yes.
