Silbury Hill is the largest artificial mound in Europe. It is similar in height and volume to the Egyptian pyramids. Whilst the hill is a bit of a mystery to historians, experts believe it was completed in around 2400 BC. There are no burials within the hill and its purpose and significance remain unknown. The site is managed by English Heritage.

Whilst there is a car park and viewing station, you can incorporate it into an Avebury Walk around the stones and view from the opposite side on the footpath headed towards West Kennet Long Barrow - this is also worth a look! Check out my Avebury walking tour for some inspiration!

There is a small free car park which is great for parking and walking over to Avebury or to West Kennet Long Barrow as they are both a short distance away.
