Drakes Trail is a very family friendly cycle trail starting just north of Plymouth. Suitable for most bikes (maybe save your £10k Canyon roadie for your next trip to Spain). We have recorded the route so you can check it out. See here:

Drake's Trail is a shared use walking and cycling route that runs between Tavistock and Plymouth, along the western edge of Dartmoor. It forms part of the National Cycle Network Route 27, otherwise known as the Devon Coast to Coast, and incoporates the Plym Valley Trail.
