Beautiful Sanctuary in the Mesero area, excellent as a reference point also for the services that are adjacent to it, it can be an excellent point for a break with a visit to the town.
Already existing before 1200, the old parish church, dedicated to the Purification of the Blessed Virgin, underwent a first renovation at the beginning of 1500. The measurement made then presents us with an ecclesiastical hall of the same width as the current one but the height is much lower . It has two chapels in addition to the one that contains the main altar, the first, on the left, dedicated to the Annunciation, then dedicated to the Madonna of the Rosary, the second, on the right, to San Giuseppe, later to Sant'Antonio.
The baptistery was built in 1595.
The sacred building was consecrated on 15 February 1562 by the auxiliary bishop of Milan, Gerolamo Ferragatta.
In 1638 the church was almost completely rebuilt in its current baroque style, at the expense of the Carthusian monks on whom the Meseri parish depended.
In 1727, donated by Giuseppe Clerici, the organ was placed above the main door.
In 1735 the new ossuary was built on the right side of the main facade.
The pictorial decorations on the walls of the sacred building date back to 1892, the work of the painters Calcaterra di Cuggiono and Ferrario di Ossona.
The other frescoes on the vault and on the sides of the main altar were painted in 1917 by the painter Zambellini from Lodi.
Once the new parish church was built at the end of 1972, the old church remained open for a few more years for weekday celebrations. In 1976 it was closed to worship and the parish changed its name: from the "Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary" it changed to the current "Presentation of the Lord".
Starting from 2002, the recovery and restoration works of the ecclesial building began to transform it, according to the wishes of Cardinals Carlo Maria Martini and Dionigi Tettamanzi, archbishops of Milan, into a "Shrine of the Family", dedicated to Saint Gianna Beretta Molla, canonized on 16 May 2004 as "Mother of the family", while the adjacent old rectory became the "Centre for Family Spirituality and Service to Life".
