The Margrafenbrunnen on the market square in Roth is the oldest public fountain in the city. The black eagle sits at the top of the fountain column decorated with ornaments and colorful water-spouting heads.

There was a fountain in the same place as early as 1556, which was replaced by a Renaissance wooden structure in 1600. The stone fountain in its current form was built in 1757. The city of Roth had it built as a gift for the sovereign Carl Wilhelm Friedrich. The Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach (1712 to 1757) particularly promoted industry and commerce, art and science. The first fire protection insurance was created under his reign in 1754. The fountain column bears his initials "CWF".

In 2014 the fountain had to be renovated because the fountain basin was cracked. A stainless steel sink was installed. The fountain also received a new coat of paint this year in the original black, red and gold. In October 2022, the city council will discuss removing the fountain from the market square and placing it somewhere else. Because the Roth market square is to be redesigned.
