In 1900 this military training area with a shooting range was established east of Rinkaby. An airfield was established on the site in 1926. During the Second World War the airfield served as a war base. Today, the air base is no longer active here for air operations, but is only used as a military training area.

I could not verify if the terrain is open for crossing on foot or by bike in the high season (summer). When we were there in early October, we had to take an alternative route northbound around the outside.
