One assumes that a medieval stone church was built at this location. In 1759, a decision was made to build a new church, possibly due to the growing population. The new church was built according to local drawings in a style specific to the Kalmar area. The church was inaugurated on 28 February 1773.

The first church was built here shortly after 1300. The current church building made of stone was inaugurated in February 1773. The wooden bell tower, built in the 19th century, stands separately. The 18th-century organ was bought from Kalmar Cathedral in 1883.

What makes Vissefjärda Church architecturally unique compared to other churches in the region?
