View of the Chakchiuma Gorge, Steinbruch am Breiten Berg

The nature reserve Steinbruch am Breiten Berg:

is located in the Westerwald district in Rhineland-Palatinate. The approximately 6.5 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1983, extends north of the local community of Ötzingen. The Aubach flows to the west and runs the district road K 81, the state road L 267 runs to the south and the B 255 to the east. The purpose of protection is the preservation of the abandoned quarry with its water and shallow water zones as a habitat for rare and endangered animal species for scientific reasons.

Unfortunately, you can hardly see anything of the imposing hole in summer.

Here is the "quarry on the broad mountain" and from here you get a pretty good view of the "gorge". Here you are on a plateau that can be reached via well-developed paths. Beautiful natural spot and nature reserve! :-)
