In 1872 he was part of a consortium that purchased the stagnating spa operations in Bad Rothenfelde.
In 1894 he set up a foundation with his wife Antoinette. It was called the Schüchtermann-Schiller'sche Familienstiftung. The Schüchtermann-Klinik in Bad Rothenfelde which was opened in 1973 was named after him and is one of the many assets of the Schüchtermann-Schiller'sche Familienstiftung.
