Leuscheider Heath

The Leuscheider Heide lies on a quartzite ridge in the Mittelsiegbergland on the border with North Rhine-Westphalia. Geology, altitude and the humid climate have resulted in humid and acidic site conditions, which enable the occurrence of rare biotope types. The majority of the area is covered by extensive forests, in which intermediate moors, moor heaths and forest meadows are embedded. Springs and spring streams with spring forests, the streams with forests along the banks of the streams, the moors with large and small sedge reeds, the dwarf shrub heaths, the damp and wet meadows of the stream valleys and various semi-natural deciduous forests make up the richness of this area.
