Set in the hills south of Ely, Ward Charcoal Ovens State Historic Park features six striking, beehive-shaped stone kilns built in 1876 to supply charcoal for nearby silver smelters. Rising 30 feet tall, the ovens are remarkably well preserved and stand as reminders of Nevada’s mining past. You can walk among the historic structures, enjoy scenic desert and mountain views, and explore nearby trails that wind through piñon-juniper woodlands.
