Location:
With a wonderful view of Lake Zurich and the mountains, “Heureka” stands prominently on the Zürichhorn. The meadow can be reached with one of the Limmat boats, a tour boat or by tram.

The work:
The large kinetic sculpture "Heureka" made of iron rods, steel wheels, metal pans and pipes was created by Jean Tinguely in 1964 for the national exhibition in Lausanne. The title “Eureka”, ancient Greek for “I found it!”, Is to be understood ironically, because plastic is a machine without a purpose. Tinguely's “idle machines” are to be understood worldwide as allegories of the consumer and industrial society that exhaust themselves in hectic activity and yet end in the absurd. “Eureka” was Tinguely's first public work.
