The old Rhine fortress Schaaren, in the forest area of the same name, is no longer really visible as such. However, the information about it is very detailed and is located on a nature trail that informs about the historically rich area.

In Schaarenwald - west of Diessenhofen on the Hochrhein - there is a historic site; here were found: arrowheads from the Stone Age, vessels from the Late Bronze Age (9th century BC), remains of a Roman watchtower (4th century AD). Approximately here the Austrians crossed the Rhine in 1799; a bunker from the Second World War still stands there.
