The Cerebuc hermitage dedicated to the Holy Prophet Elijah is a hermitage of monks that belongs to the Monastery on Mount Ceahlău. It was established on the site of an older hermitage in 1614 and later fell into disrepair and was re-established in 1996. The hermitage is located 20 km from the town of Bicaz and belongs to the village of Izvorul-Alb, Neamt. Currently, 5 monks live at the hermitage, and the abbot is Protosinghel Gherontie Munteanu.
This hermitage played an important role in maintaining the hesychastic tradition on Mount Ceahlău, especially in the XVIII-XIX centuries, a period when many hermits were needed here. For a long time, they kept the toaca and the bell on Ceahlău, but also the traditional patron saint from August 6, thus keeping a close connection with the other monastic settlements in the area.
The current monastic settlement is located in Poiana Cerebuc, in a place of unique beauty and includes a church with several cells. The church is built of wood and covered with shingles. Inside, the walls are adorned with a particularly beautiful realistic painting, and the catapult is made of carved oak. The nave has wide and deep apses, being illuminated by a window in the south and in the north. On the nave is built a large open tower, octagonal in shape, lit by four windows.
