Location and history: The Kräherwald is an elongated forest area between the Botnang Saddle and the Killesberg in Stuttgart, its width extends from the northern part of Stuttgart West, where the Doggenburg and the Bismarkturm are also located, down to Botnang and into the Feuerbacher Valley.

There are two meanings for the name Kräherwald.

This name either refers to a forest in which crows nested or it refers to the term "crows" which means tufts of brushwood.

The main type of wood in this forest was and is oak. In the 19th century the forest was used as an oak peeling forest.

The oaks were felled and felled every 30 years. The bark was sold as Gerbrinde (Lohe) and the wood as firewood.

The oaks fell out of the rhizomes again.

The use was repeated after 30 years.

In the century before last, this was one of the most profitable forms of forest management.

Before that, the Kräherwald was an important pasture forest that the Stuttgart shepherds could easily reach with their herds via the Herdweg.
