The Monte Pelmo (3168 m) is one of the highest peaks in the Dolomites. Together with Monte Rite and other peaks, it is one of those mountains that separate the Val di Zoldo from the Valle del Boite.
The Monte Pelmo is one of the great rock domes in the Dolomites, a mountain of enormous dimensions. It forms an almost closed block, from whichever side you may look at it.
So there are only a few possibilities for climbing. The best known (and easiest) ascent leads over the south-east flank. The route of the first climbers still offers a rewarding, but long and strenuous mountain tour in the second degree of difficulty. Problems can be found with the above-mentioned, exposed ball band. Climbing skills and surefootedness are necessary. The ascent of Monte Pelmo should also be carried out in safe weather and without snow.
Another worthwhile ascent variant of comparable difficulty goes through the fissura (the rubble-filled crack between the main summit and Pelmetto) and over the Grohmannband to the aforementioned cirque.
